Galway has been on my bucket list for, well, the last ten years. I’ve heard such good things about the food, art and culture there and have been dying to experience it. So when I heard it was Bakefest 2015 this past weekend, I HAD to visit!
Bakefest showcased some SERIOUS Irish talent. I was blown away by the cakes on display, but also the flavors of the desserts I tried. It’s such an exciting time to be part of the food industry in Ireland right now. Ireland is going through a food revolution, and chefs are being insanely creative and resourceful with what’s in their front yards/on the their own shores.
Natasha Czopor, the super cool mastermind behind Natasha’s Living Food who’s demonstration I attended on Sunday is a chef to watch. I’m ecstatic I got to see her in action-she is one badass lady-and her raw foods we got to try are AMAZING-I’m truly inspired by her work and ethos. If you haven’t tried her products, go and buy them or make them at home!
I also had the pleasure of talking with Lorraine from Daisy Cottage Cakes. She’s a one-woman cake baking extraordinaire in Wicklow (with help from her partner on the farm). I adored her Halloween inspired orange and chocolate cake-her colorful cakes are not to be missed!
Like I said before, it is an exciting-and inspiring-time to be part of the food culture in Ireland. I have such a motivation after attending this year’s Bakefest. Thank you Jenny for putting together a wonderful food festival, here’s to next year!
